History of Bikes; bikes were invented by Baron Karl vonn Drais. It was released to the public in Manneheim, Germany in the year 1817. It was first made with wood, since that was the only thing they had, and the seat was a basic wooden plate. Pushed by their feet, they steered with the front wheel. The in 1860 a French man named Pierre Michaux and Pierre Lallement introduced the pedals to the bike. In 1888 Scottish man named John Boyd Dunlop he invented the first tire made from rubber, which was used on the bicycle. In 1905 the bicycles had the first hand brake, and chains that were attached to the bike. The first bicycle was called the Dreisine. In the 1870 the High-wheel bicycle got invented. It had a huge front wheel and a small back wheel. The pedals were attached to the front wheel, and there was no chain. The front wheel was so big, because the seat would then be above the pedals that were attacked to the middle of the front wheel. And if the wheel would be bigger, the bike could move faster with one push of your foot then it would with a small wheel.
Bicycles are simple and beautifuly and easy to operate machine s that attract just about every kid at an early age, working their wa y up from tricycles and training wheels. The coolest thing about a bicycle is that it lets you get where you are going a lot faster and using a lot less energy than if you were walkin g or running. Another neat thing about bicycles for anyone interested in machines and mechanics is that everything is showed. There are no covers or sheet that hiding any of the working parts that propel you down the road on a bicycle, it is all out in the open. Many kids with mechanical tendencies can't resist the desire to break out the tool set and take their bike apart!
